Earning Criteria

Acquire real-world experience during the first sergeant special duty assignment where it was necessary to implement crisis intervention in situations that included but not limited to death, child and/or spouse neglect/abuse, or other destructive behaviors where it was necessary to unite individuals with resources and tools to provide the requisite support.

Document the real-world experience by writing a professional journal comprised of personal reflection describing a scenario where the counseling skills were employed (without revealing information identifying the individuals involved) and how skill application led to successful outcomes. The reflection should include specifics in regards to life skills, intermediary, suicide crisis response, and/or domestic crisis response where appropriate. Compile a portfolio that includes the required course certificates, proof of award of the suicide crisis response and domestic abuse response badges, and professional journal. Please see Portfolio Checklist for guidance.

The portfolio was reviewed by the First Sergeants' Council according to the Crisis Counseling Rubric and recommended for the award of the Crisis Counseling badge.
